Domino was calm as she held Moira's hand, checking over the little girl's weapons again. Moira had been eager to go with her parents, but also a little afraid. She knew there was a war, and that the war would mean bad things. But they were only going to be there for an hour, and she wanted to help her mom and dad.

The women watched Nathan calibrate the machine, and Domino patted her girl's head. "It'll be okay, Momo. We'll be in and out real fast with your older brother in tow. Everything will be good."

Moira nodded, hugging her mom impulsively. "I know, Mom. I'm just excited is all." She gave her mom a big smile, which Domino eagerly returned.

The shock of the last shot was still running through her arm when she opened her eyes. The hazy smoke from the burnt gunpowder obscurred her vision for a moment, and Domino felt sick. She set the shotgun down, bolting over to the large lump of flesh that had once been a person in front of her. She didn't know what had happened, but she knew it was bad. His face looked like a nightmare, bone and brain visible through large gaping holes, and some parts f his face left untouched. One perfect eye stared blankly to the left, no longer shining. It was like a large glass marble set in a bloody fixture.

And that was the body she could bear to look at. She'd seen two smaller lumps at his feet, but for now this was horror enough. She felt numb, horrified. What had happened? Had she been the one to do this? The shot sure as hell looked like it came from a shotgun, but she didn't like shotguns, as a rule. If she'd have wanted to kill her husband, and the possibility was there, she'd have taken him out from far away, not close enough to smell the blood and see his ruined face.

She sat back, not understanding. Despite the times they'd fought, how much they'd worked against each other, she had no reason to hurt him now, and every reason to protect him. Which drew her eyes to the thing she'd been avoiding. Before she looked she knew what they were. It was obvious, really. But she looked anyway, retching at the first glance. They were unmistakable, even though their bodies were chewed up, as though they'd been put in a food processor. The blue and white of their sleepers was slowly ceding to red, and then black as the blood soaked in. She wiped her mouth, spitting to get the taste out, before moving closer, shaking horribly. Her fingers touched one tiny fist, miraculously untouched, it was cold, and she shook her head. If she'd shot them second, their bodies wouldn't be cold. Had there been someone here she was shooting at?

Her memory was a blank, and that was the worst part. Her lover and her children had died, and she had no idea why, and no clue if she had been the one who'd done it or not.

Domino had found a paradise of sorts in Providence, the floating island that Cable had created to be a utopia. The day before the destruction of Providence, Domino was swept up by a vortex, and thrown into the middle east, replacing a terrorist with an exploding goat. After a week, she located and contacted Cable, and arranged a meeting. It was the beginning of a serious overhaul of their relationship, which led to them living together, then stealing a ship from the future to be their home. In time, after another bout of craziness, they decided to reproduce, which led to some small heartbreak as Domino discovered she had previously been pregnant while being held by Tolliver, though she's not even sure the child was carried to term, and if it survived afterward.

Her pregnancy was a little rough on her, since she was carrying twins, one of which was abnormally sized. They were born a month premature, due to some excitement caused by the Purifiers, but both were healthy, and Domino only caries the faintest of scars where they cut her open to extract the children.

Since then she has worked with Cable to build the Genoshan army, with a brief interlude to rescue their children after they had been captured by goblins.

Nate, if I don't get out of this house tonight I'm liable to kill everyone in Genosha. I've been yelling at everyone all day. Lorna and Alex fled earlier, and haven't been back since.

I swear to God, it's like everything just pisses me off!

You know, as scary and potentially bad as this whole parenting thing might be, I can't seem to work up to being afraid of it. Nervous, yes. Definitely anxious and impatient.

But not scared. Which I guess makes sense. After all, Nate's raised, or at least helped raise, kids before, and even I have the Priest as a role model, if not a terribly maternal one.

I guess it just feels weird to have my life changing in such a huge way, but not really reacting to it, yet. Somehow buying baby stuff and talking about where the crib is going when the kids start sleeping through the night just doesn't make it. . . real?

I dunno.

I should perhaps be more drunk.

But I'm not drunk at all, more's the pity. This would probably make more sense if I were. Or if I could get a cup of real coffee.

And that's really the sum of my reaction so far. I'm irritated because I can't have caffeine or alcohol, and because my ability to work is severely limited by the falling asleep thing.

Maybe when things change more, it'll sink into my brain.

Who: Cable and Domino
What: plotting, fucking
Where: the space ship that doesn't exist
When: earlier in the day
Warnings: See 'What'

It had been a few hours since Domino had seen Cable. She wasn't worried, since she knew exactly where he was, nor was she, strictly speaking, annoyed. But she wanted to be around him, so she decided it was time to interrupt his homework. Opting to forgo clothing, she padded barefoot through the halls of the spaceship, until she saw him bent over a computer terminal. Rather than risk setting off an instinctual reaction, Domino knocked on the door before entering. "Hey. I"m going to get jealous of that chair. It's seen your ass more than I have." Her tone was light and joking as she wandered over, peering over his shoulder.
